Hello, Scribblers!
Wow, it’s been a while since I posted on here! How are you all doing?
I’m kind of excited for today’s post. Most of the time I don’t love step-by-step guides. I feel like it teaches people to rely too much on needing to be told exactly what to draw.
But . . . today I’m going to be sharing a step-by-step guide for you all on how to draw a person. I’ll be covering a lot of ground in each step, though, so hopefully no one will feel overwhelmed. 😉 And now, onto the post!
(Also, apologies for the pictures; I had to make some of them really dark so you could see my sketches)
Step One

Start by drawing the outline. This is going to be very basic and you’ll see a lot of basic shapes. At this point, don’t worry too much about the little details. We just want to get the basic outline sketched out so we can go from there.
Be sure to draw very lightly: these lines are not supposed to show up in your final drawing.
Step Two

I darkened my lines just a bit and went over my previous sketch again, trying to make the shapes look a bit less like formless blobs.
Step Three

Draw two lines coming through the face. These will help you place the facial features.
Step Four

Add a very basic outline of where you want to place the eyes, nose, eyebrows, and mouth. Don’t worry if it looks ridiculous. XD That’s normal.
Step Five

Okay, now we’re moving into working with colors. Gently erase some of the harsher outlines on your drawing and redraw them with colored pencils. I used brown for the hair, body and arms, blue and red for the dress, and red and green for the flower.
Step Six

Do the same with the face. At this step I kind of worried that I had ruined the whole drawing because the face looked awful. 🙈
Step Seven

Now color everything in.
Step Eight
This might be the most intimidating step, but it’s the most important. Here you’ll add shading and some extra little details. It might take a while, but it’s worth it! This step is what makes your drawing come alive.
The finished product . . .
I like it okay. Part of me wishes that it had turned out better, part of me wanted to spend another hour working on it while still wanting to get it done so I could write this post . . . but part of me is satisfied with how it turned out. And I hope you’ll feel the same about your drawings too!
If you end up giving this a shot, send me a picture of how it turned out! I’d love to see them!
Have a great day!
